In the framework of an ongoing collaboration with University of Leuven and View Infrastructure sponsored by PNRR PE5 Changes-Spoke 3 (Digital Archives, Libraries and Phylology), Naples Dante Project and University Federico II have been imaging and studying over the course of the last week a beautiful illuminated manuscript of Dante’s Commedia at the Württembergische Landesbibliothek Stuttgart.

With the obtained Multispectral, Multi-Light Reflectance and X-Ray Fluorescence data the fascinating and unique illuminations and decorated initials will now be studied to understand the craftsmanship and artistic practice of its 14th century Bologna-based illuminator, known as the ‘Illustratore’, aka the most eminent illustrator of Northern Italy at that period. Many thanks to all the collaborators at the Württembergische Landesbibliothek for their kind support in accommodating and facilitating us.
