TraDante

Testi e tradizioni delle opere dantesche

TraDante. Testi e tradizioni delle opere dantesche explores Dante’s works through textual traditions, manuscript evidence, digital philology, and interoperable scholarly resources.

TraDante is a research portal developed by the Dipartimento di Studi Umanistici of the University of Naples Federico II. The project originated within the framework of Spoke 3 – Digital Libraries, Archives and Philology of PNRR PE5 CHANGES, coordinated by Andrea Mazzucchi, with the aim of building a unified digital environment for the study of the tradition of Dante’s works.

Rather than a simple website or a collection of databases, TraDante is conceived as a true research infrastructure: an ecosystem designed to integrate heterogeneous data and to enable the combined exploration of manuscripts, early printed books, texts, commentaries, and critical resources. The portal functions as a single point of access to a constellation of archives and databases developed within different projects, preserving the scholarly identity of each while enabling their interoperability through shared models, common standards, and controlled vocabularies.

TraDante allows users to consult individual databases, explore the overall corpus, view digitised materials, and perform cross-database queries on data relating to works, witnesses, authors, commentators, printers, and copies. Users can begin their research from a manuscript, a printed edition, a work, or a historical figure, and move freely within the portal by following dynamically generated connections between data.

TraDante is a working environment that enables the intersection of codicological, philological, historical, and exegetical perspectives, fostering new research questions. The structure of the portal is designed to be expandable and open to the integration of new projects and databases, whether internal or external, that share a commitment to the scholarly quality of data and to their interconnection.
